MISSION
The mission of American Women of African Heritage, Inc. (AWAH) is to empower women and girls of African ancestry, and enrich their lives and the lives of others within the African-American community. It seeks to nurture and enrich women and girls, serve social, cultural and educational exchange, intergenerational dialogue, promote unity among women, celebrate and preserve the legacy of pioneering women and strengthen civic involvement and bonds of cooperation within our community.
The mission is advanced through mentoring programs, partnerships with community institutions, support for the arts and through social, cultural and educational events.
VISION
AWAH believes that all people deserve a place to congregate with peers that can nourish the soul, build character, teach new skills, celebrate culture, remember, and honor the achievements of pioneering women in the community.
The vision of American Women of African Heritage is to establish and operate an African-American Cultural Center and Museum of Westchester County. The Cultural Center will serve to house AWAH’s programs for women and girls and provide a venue for social activities for the entire community. With assistance and support from public libraries, museums and other institutions, the Cultural Center will be a repository for historic documents and memorabilia of notable African Americans who have lived or worked in Westchester County.
